Facial Rejuventation Recovery Series Blog 4: Tips from Dr. Sullivan and His Team - Patrick Sullivan, M.D. Skip to main content

In the final and fourth part of our blog series on facial rejuvenation and recovery we would like to share our “insider†tips and tricks for helping the healing process along. This list has been compiled from interviews with Dr. Sullivan and our specially trained team of nurse practitioners.

Tips from Dr. Sullivan and his team

Often facial rejuvenation patients ask our nurses about which homeopathic or natural remedies they can use to help speed the healing process along.  Below is a list of commonly suggested tricks and tips that we at Dr. Sullivanâ€s office have found helpful.  These are not to be taken as medical recommendations for you specifically and should always be discussed with your physician before undertaking.

1.      Sleep in an Upright Position: all of Dr. Sullivanâ€s facial rejuvenation patients are provided a complimentary wedge pillow to help stabilize them and provide elevation during their sleep.  Some patients tell us that they prefer sleeping in a reclining chair post-surgery.

2.      Treat Yourself to a Lymphatic or Ultrasonic Massage: Here at Dr. Sullivanâ€s office all post-surgical facial rejuvenation patients are provided with two complimentary lymphatic or ultrasonic massages.  These types of massages are done to help the body heal and reduce any residual swelling or puffiness.

3.      Limit Your Diet to Soft Foods:  Dr. Sullivan and his team recommend all our facial rejuvenation patients refrain from eating solid foods for up to two weeks following surgery.  We also recommend our patients find a good protein drink, which contains much of their macro and micro nutrients, to drink daily in order to meet and maintain their nutritional needs.

4.      Eat Fresh Pineapple and Drink Pineapple Juice:  Pineapple contains bromelain, a naturally occurring enzyme that has anti-inflammatory properties and can help reduce postoperative bruising and swelling.

5.      Try Arnica Topical Gel: This should only be used as a topical ointment and has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties.
