If you are looking to achieve a more youthful look without surgery or downtime, injectable treatments such as Botox, Dysport, and Fillers are a common and popular way to achieve these specific goals. However, you may get to a point when the injectables are not having the same positive effect as they once did. Is it time to move from your injectable treatments to a more long-lasting solution? Plastic surgery can produce durable rejuvenation and more dramatic results and sometimes with only minimal downtime. I see this all the time in my practice. We have had many patients who have come to us for injectables but a time may come when they will want more than an injectable can provide for them. We then have the discussion to see if it is time for them to move on to the next phase.

Younger women and men in their 30s and 40s and beyond tend to benefit from injectable treatments, while older patients typically get better results from a surgery or a combination of surgery and injectables. However, since people age differently and in different ways, there is no particular age at which one should make the switch from injectables to surgery. It is more a function of what the person wants to achieve.

Patients in their 30s and 40s that begin injectable treatments may find that after a few years the time and cost required to maintain their treatments may become a financial burden. If it is becoming more challenging to find time for your follow-up treatments, a surgical procedure can offer you more long lasting results in a single surgery and recovery period.

Injectable treatments work best at reversing signs of aging like loss of facial volume and the appearance of fine lines and deeper facial creases. However, if you are noticing more sagging skin, jowls, areas of fullness around the mouth, chin and neck, injectable treatments may not be enough in addressing these particular areas. Our surgical multiple plane facelift can effectively lift tissue that has fallen, remove excess skin jowls and fatty deposits to create a more youthful rejuvenated facial profile. Fat injections with your own fat and associated stem cells can help fill areas that have deflated leading to on overall healthy and natural look.

It is important to note that not everyone is a good candidate for a surgical procedure. Individuals with underlying health conditions (like smokers) may not be good candidates for surgery. Thus, the risks of surgery do not outweigh the benefits in cases with underlying health conditions. If you are considering plastic surgery with us, it is imperative that you schedule a consultation to discuss your options and any potential risk factors you may have before you decide to have surgery.

Injectable treatments are quick, taking just minutes to complete and requiring minimal downtime afterward. Surgery is a more extensive process that involves sedation, incisions and downtime. If you are considering facial injections or rejuvenation surgery we would love to talk with you about all the details. It is very exciting to see how patients are transformed in such a positive and natural way.
